Today I'm gonna be comparing two palettes, the Urban Decay Naked Palette 2 and the Sleek Storm Palette.
To be honest, I think Naked Palette 1 is much more comparable to the Storm Palette, since it has more colour, whereas Naked 2 is more of browny earthy tones.
But what's the point of getting Naked 1 if I already have the Sleek Storm? So in a way...it's kinda like me having both Naked palettes, cos the Storm is similar. Yay :)
STORM PALETTE
I got the Storm Palette around this time last year, because it was around that time that everyone was talking about how amazing this palette was, and since it was about $15AUD on ebay, I thought, "Why not?"
There are other colour palettes from Sleek, but I chose this one because it had the colours that I was more likely to wear.
It's a combination of matte and shimmer shades, ranging from your wearable neutrals to the funky berrys and green and blue shades, for those days you just want to switch it up.
It also has a mirror, but honestly, I never use mirrors in my eyeshadow palettes, do you?
The pigmentation of these eyeshadows are really amazing, especially with the metallic/shimmery ones. It's soft and velvety. The only shade I'm a tad disappointed with is the third one on the top row, you can't really pick up the colour without a good eye primer underneath. But it's still a pretty shade of soft brown.
Storm Palette in Direct Sunlight
Look how pretttty the shades are! It's almost like a rainbow :)
All swatches are without primer.
Storm Palette in Indoor Lighting.
To the owners of a Naked 1 palette, don't you think the Storm Palette is kind of similar? With the blue and golds and that copper colour. Let me know your thoughts!
Naked Palette 2
Version 2 of the Naked Palettes holds more browns, and I think cooler tones than Naked 1. The packaging of N2 is definitely more sturdier and the audible click when you close it makes you reassured that your palette won't open up in your bag accidently, if you decide to carry it around when travelling.
True to its word, the texture of these eyeshadows are really nice. They're smooth, buttery, velvety and pigmented. I had no trouble swatching any of these colours, except Foxy. Although Foxy is smooth to the touch and soft, it just didn't appear on skin. Nothing a good brush and primer can't fix, though.
My shades that stood out to me and quickly became my favourites were Suspect, Pistol, Verve and YDK. All metallic, all buttery, all pigmented and soo pretty!
Did anyone notice an almost dupe between the two palettes?
Urban Decay's popular shade "Half Baked" and the first colour on the Storm palette. The storm palette doesn't have any names for its shades.
I'd say Half Baked is a little more golden. But they do look very similar!
I threw in a swatch of "Chopper" from N2, since it looked similar on the palette, but it's definitely darker.
Sleek Storm vs Urban Decay Naked 2
So there you have it!
I definitely think Sleek is worth checking out since it's only a fraction of the price of Urban Decay but you're still getting top quality similar looking eyeshadows :) Sleek also has more palettes of different themes if you don't particularly like the Storm colour scheme.
I love both palettes and I'm gonna give them some more lovin ;)

Love the table idea!!! So easy to compare and heaps practical!
ReplyDeletethanks! yeah the only hard part was coming up with what titles to put for comparison haha
Deletea great review :)!
ReplyDeletePersonally I wont spend $55 for a naked palette, hahaa I like my 88 palette and also think there are heaps of cheaper alternative out there :P
i know what you mean by cheaper alternatives. i have the 88 palette too, but this upgrade is worth it!
DeleteAhhh, this post did not help me in trying not to buy Naked2! :) I love that picture of the whole palette swatched, there are some seriously gorgeous shades in there. I think I need it. I have that Sleek palette, I don't use it very much though it really has some pretty shades.
ReplyDeleteoh you definitely "need" it ;) hehee.
DeleteI have Sleek's Storm and I don't know why, but I don't seem to use it that much. They're really pigmented but they don't seem to perform well once on my makeup brush? Weird. Love the UD swatches :)
ReplyDeletei know what you mean! it does have pretty shades but i dont reach out for it as often. i wanna try give it more loving tho
DeleteNO! WHY DID I READ THIS?! NOW I WANT EYESHADOW AND I DON'T EVEN WEAR EYESHADOW!
ReplyDeleteSTOP IT, TEZZA! YOU'RE ALWAYS MAKING ME WANT TO SHOP!! LOL!!
LOOOL, you always wanna make me buy stuff online too from your tweets of all the bags!
DeleteLoved this review!! Even though I have a 88 CS Palette and also my Naked 2. I'm always going back to my Naked 2 - I use it everyday. I'm not a heavy eyeshadow person but I use it to set my black eyeliner and also add some light to my eyes with the gold and white colours :) Sleek Palette looks nice!! And only $15... hmmm got enough eyeshadow palettes for now!
ReplyDeleteI agree, i think im set with eyeshadow palettes for a while..
DeleteYayyyy Naked 2!!
ReplyDeleteHmm Storm does look quite similar to Naked 1 but with more darker non-brown shades like the blue and stuff. Naked 1 is pretty much all goldy browns with two dark grey/silver shades. Everything is sooooooooo pretty though. For some reason I find the tin packaging of Naked 2 kind of cheap looking? I know it's more sturdy and everyone prefers it because it's better for travel etc, but I can't stop thinking it looks too cheap for UD! And I know everyone says the Naked 1 velvety cardboard magnetic packaging gets dirty easily and rips or whatever, but I keep mine stored away and don't even wear eyeshadow everyday so it's fine for me haha.
But I still like the Naked 2 colours better hahaha. BUT THEN I'd rather have the primer potion than the lip gloss. Sigh, such a battle. Hahaha love this post though :) :)
haha i think cos everyone complained about the cardboard packaging so they upped it to none other than a tin one. shoulda just slapped on some velvet at the top of the tin hahaha
DeleteOmg..I really want to buy the Naked palette 2 now! The shades look so neutral and nice~
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing :)
it's super pretty even just staring at it!
DeleteUrban decay seems to have amazing products! : D I really want to use it but I am not good at makeup. Hahaha!
ReplyDeletei think im still a bit of a noob when it comes to eyeshadows but i couldnt resist haha~
DeleteWoo!! Thanks for the comparison review ^^ i think imight investinthe storm palettes !! I was keen to get the naked coz of all the hype, but if i save money with similar shadows... Id take that any day!
ReplyDeleteno worries! the storm palettes are awesome, give them a go :)
DeleteThis is an awesome review!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to get new eyeshadows >>" mmm, that Sleek palette looks tempting eee! But I shouldn't be spending money ;A;
i shouldnt be spending money either...but it always get spent on something....LOL
DeleteHi T, I love your very thorough reviews on these two pallets. And I am considering purchasing the Sleek pallet...But I'm not sure...well i bought the 88 pallet after rave reviews and i was a little disappointed because i didn't think it was pigmented enough if you know what i mean. But i guess you get what you pay for right? I also have the naked original and love it but I dunno? What do you think? Is the Sleek better quality than the 88 pallet?
ReplyDeletei definitely think sleek is much better than the 88 palette, even if it has less colours. i have the 88 palette too, but the one i bought from ebay isnt as pigmented and i only use the brown colours from there to fill in my eyebrows lol!
Deletenaked 1 is similar to the storm palette, so maybe have a look into the other palettes sleek have, cos im sure their eyeshadow quality should be as good as the storm shades :)
hope i helped!
Thanks heaps! I bought my 88 pallet from coastal scents and it really isn't very pigmented either. I think its because we've used some of the more high end brands like MAC and Urban Decay and we're making an unfair comparison hehehe We're comparing apples and oranges! I will give Sleek a go :) Thanks T! Oohhh Before i go, the other day Priceline were having a 30% off Loreal Sale, and i got the Infallible eyeshadows and they're really good!!! They're really pigmented and they stay on overnight! (I used the MAC cream eyeshadow underneath because i ran out of UD Primer Potion) From $19.95 down to $13. I know its not that cheap but its really good quality and the colours really suit us asian skin tones.
DeleteHey Tezza~
